Welcome to GRASSROOTS EDUCATION! I am excited to spearhead this initiative at Elbow Tree Cooperative. As part of the Coop's mission to "promote human flourishing in our own backyard", our mission at Grassroots only supports this effort.
As we live in this new season with school closures and social distancing, our way of doing things must adapt. As a way to protect ourselves and one another, yet continue to learn and grow, I have moved to an online platform. In addition, I am extending two free sessions to each new and current client, followed by discounted rates through the end of April 2020.
Educational struggle is real and impacts the whole person: our self image, our relationships, our motivation to set and accomplish goals, and so much more.
Our desire at Grassroots is to create a safe place for our clients to become empowered to push themselves to gain new skills and strategies for learning.
To accomplish this, we believe a collaborative, caring, and evidence-based approach among educators, specialists, family, community stakeholders, and the child is the most effective strategy. This effort is marked by:
A LITTLE ABOUT BRITTANY
Seventeen years ago, I launched my teaching career right here in St. Augustine as an Exceptional Student Education teacher at Gamble Rogers Middle School. My experience here was followed by six formative years overseas in Italy and Japan teaching for the Department of Defense. The tail end of my career in public education was spent in Virginia Beach, where I also started my family and earned my Ed.S in Educational Leadership. The bulk of my teaching career has been deeply focused on children and teenagers with learning differences in executive functioning, learning strategies, reading, writing, and math. I am currently pursuing certification through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators to provide highly specialized and individualized instruction to learners with dyslexia.
Not every child grows in the same way so I create a warm, inviting environment where your child will feel comfortable to push through their own resistance to gain new skills and strategies for learning. Whether your child needs ongoing support in certain academic areas, or specific strategies to improve executive functioning, organization, and study habits, I offer expert support.
If you are a parent looking for support on how to better understand your child's needs, or if you are an educator visiting this site, please feel free to reach out. I would love to explore some creative avenues for how I can support you as well.
